Ana Williams

Biography.

Ana is a textile and mixed media artist drawn to the spaces where words become image and stories leave residue. Using screen printing, lino blocks and eco printing, she explores women’s folklore, resurrection and authenticity, recovering what’s been silenced through symbolic acts of making. Influenced by the radical domesticity of Louise Bourgeois, the mythic surrealism of Leonora Carrington, and Frida Kahlo’s fearless storytelling through pain and identity, Ana’s work threads personal and collective memory into tactile form. A lifelong lover of books, language, and myth, her practice embodies a kind of visual storytelling. She is a member of Alchemy, a collective of women artists.

Artist Statement.

I make pieces that listen for what’s been buried. Using textiles and mixed media, I layer screen printing, lino printing and stitch to create surfaces that hold forgotten stories. My process is tactile and intuitive, grounded in traditional techniques but shaped by a desire to disturb, uncover, and reimagine.

My current work begins with the idea of ‘singing over the bones’, a phrase drawn from folklore that speaks to survival, resurrection, and the power of women’s voices. I’m interested in how myth, memory, and material culture intersect, particularly where women’s stories have been obscured or dismissed.
