Artist’s Statement
My art is a reflection of the interaction between my inner thoughts and responses to my
surroundings, from the wide dramatic changing skies, wild blustery days and continually changing
landscapes.
Drawing inspirations from scenic Northumberland, I create work that captures the movement,
energy and the continual change in the landscape that I experience on my regular walks.
Working mainly with mixed media, I experiment with different abstract techniques to bring my
experiences to life.
I enjoy creating pigments to use in my work using found shells, sea coal, sandstone and
charcoal.
This helps deepen my inner connection to the area. The process is very a familiar one as I had to
formulate and dispense in my extemporaneous dispensing role in my previous life as a pharmacist.
